Larry's Memo: October 12

ON PRINTING MONEY

Green Party co-leader Russel Norman announced his party's monetary policy.

Norman thinks it would be a good idea for the Reserve Bank to print money and buy Christchurch recovery bonds and overseas assets for the National Disaster Fund.

The policy has rightly been rubbished although Labour is not totally dismissive.

In short Norman is wanting to monetize the Governments debt which is effectively a tax on every New Zealander.

Its the kind of policy that despots get up to - like Mugabe.

ON HOLLYWOOD

The PM went to Hollywood and it's possible the Government will up the incentives to make movies here.

The rationale is that other countries offer more than the 15% rebate including Australia.

This is a really simple thing.

If we want the business then we have to compete. If we don't that business will go somewhere else. Theres plenty of countries that want that business.

ON YOUTH WAGE

The opposition parties were outraged a 'youth wage' is to be introduced.

However, most rationale people can see, I think, that if it gives a youth at the margins with no skills or experience a shot at getting a foot on the job ladder then its a good thing.

Common sense says it's a good thing.

So does the evidence which the anti mob refuse to accept.

ON TYSON

His visa has been declined again.

This was predictable.

Those supporting Tyson couldn't help themselves. Their quest for attention just brought more focus onto Tyson. Indeed when Tyson's reviews surfaced they revealed a repugnant mongrel. He labels women, including his victim, as 'whores, bitches, and tramps'. His diatribe was nothing but a 'relentless misogyny and trivialization of rape and domestic violence'.

The case against a visa became much stronger.

ON LANCE ARMSTRONG

The evidence table by the US Anti-Doping Agency is most compelling.

The only thing that is mystifying is that some people refuse to accept it.

Armstrong will go down as probably the biggest drug cheat in the history of sport.

That's no mean feat - there have been a few.

ON SHEARER

David Shearer says that the spooks have given him information.

According to Shearer the PM mentioned Dotcom in the spooks cafeteria. And it was videoed. And some of the spooks had their hard drives taken.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

He is alleging that a spy is leaking and he is in receivership of that leak and has produced zero evidence.

Funny how its now Mr Shearers credibility that is on the line here.

ON HARAWIRA

Hone Harawira is arrested at a housing protest in Glen Innes last night.

He says he wasn't breaking the law.

Sure he wasn't.

Tell that to the judge.
