Hola Argentina: Love in the 'air'

By: Natasha Burling | Sunday, September 23, 2012 6:24 PM

Our reporter Natasha Burling is in Buenos Aires with the All Blacks. Here's her latest blog:

Love was certainly in the air on the All Blacks' flight to Buenos Aires. Peter Murray got down on one knee and popped the question to Denise Maitland-Armstrong. She told me she was blown away and a bit embarrassed but said 'Yes', which was met by loud clapping and cheering from fellow passengers.

All Blacks fans have something live up to after hundreds of Independientes (Buenos Aires soccer team in the suburbs) gathered outside a hotel in downtown Buenos Aires, setting off flares, chanting with gusto and waving red and white flags.

At the hotel and I'm starting to hit the wall after very little sleep on the All Blacks flight here. The supporters are mainly an older crowd in their 50s or 60s but boy could they make some noise. From where I was in row 60 the laughter emanating from the galley blasted through the paper-thin wall and I soon lost hope of getting a decent sleep. But who can blame them for having a good time? Off with the ABs to sample the delights of Argentina, could life get any better?

A group of us have just been out to a rustic restaurant with melt-in-your-mouth eye fillet steak, barbequed over wood and washed down with a smooth Malbec. Waiters in their 60s dressed in pressed white shirts, who had a sparkle in their eyes, had obviously made this their life profession.

Off to Uruguay tomorrow. We'll be crossing the La Plata River by fast ferry to explore the cobbled streets of the colonial city of Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay.
