Fifth leg worst encountered

| Latest Yachting News | Tuesday April 10 2012 14:09

A Volvo Ocean Race veteran has described the fifth leg of the Volvo Ocean Race as the worst he's ever encountered.

Puma Ocean Racing was the only boat to suffer no damage on the leg, with the American syndicate winning the race from Auckland to Brazil.

Veteran Camper Team New Zealand helmsman Tony Rae says it's been the toughest journey.

"The truth is that they are brutal boats, it's very different than what I've experienced before. You're just going to much quicker, this leg pretty much sums it up."

Camper is the only boat still on the water on leg five, more than 2,200 nautical miles from port in Brazil.
