Camper Team New Zealand has narrowly avoided a high speed collision with a whale on leg seven of the Volvo Ocean Race.
Hurtling along at more than 20 knots, crew member Roberto Bermúdez's keen eye caught a glimpse of the whale off the bow, swinging the wheel and dodging the whale.
Media Crew Member Hamish Hooper says all of a sudden the boat lurched to starboard, just staying in control.
He says skipper Chris Nicholson popped up to see Bermudez, as if he had just seen his life flash before his eyes.
But while they've avoided the problem, Camper has slipped back 4th overall, 50 nautical miles behind the leader Abu Dhabi Racing.
