By: Radio Sport staff | Latest Tennis News | Friday May 11 2012 5:29

An extraordinary meltdown by Rafael Nadal in the third round of the Madrid tennis Masters.

Fernando Verdasco has beaten Nadal the world number two for the first time in 14 attempts, winning 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

Nadal was serving for the match at 5-2 in the third set, when he missed an easy overhead smash, allowing his fellow Spaniard back into the match.

Verdasco is just the 7th player ever to beat Nadal on clay.

4th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has also been knocked out, losing a third set tie-breaker to Alexandr Dolgopolov

Elsewhere Serena Williams has come back from losing the first set 1-6 to take the next two 6-3 6-2 in beating Caroline Wozniacki.
