Sharapova seeks French Open victory

By: Matt Brown | Latest Tennis News | Saturday June 9 2012 19:25

Maria Sharapova seeks the one grand slam tennis title to so far elude her when she meets Italy's Sara Errani in the final of the French Open tonight.

The pair have never met before with both players in dominating form on Europe's red clay this season with Errani winning three titles and Sharapova two.

Sharapova's the favourite but expects Errani to be a real handful in what will be the Italian's first grand slam final.

"She's certainly a very dangerous player, and it's also a first for her, to be in the finals here. It's not something that you prefer or not prefer, it doesn't really matter, it's whoever you have to face."

Sharapova's hoping her experience will count for something.

"I'm just excited to be in this position, whether I'm playing against someone that hasn't been there or not it doesn't matter. At the end of the day it's another match and we have to go out there and compete and perform well."

Regardless of the result Sharapova will take over the world number one ranking next week.
