Murray calling on home crowd to fire up

By: Nick Walker | Latest Tennis News | Sunday July 8 2012 15:29

Andy Murray's calling on the centre court crowd at the All England Crowd to get him over the line at Wimbledon overnight.

Murray meets Swiss ace Roger Federer in the men's singles final, endeavouring to become the first British winner in 76 years.

He says he'll need the support of the local crowd.

"It's a massive challenge to win against Roger in the final of a slam, at Wimbledon, and I hope that all the crowd is with me and I'll need all of their support."

There's also plenty at stake for Federer tonight.

He can reclaim the world number one ranking with a win over Andy Murray in the men's singles final.

He can also secure a record-equalling seventh title at the All England Club.

Federer says this is the kind of pressure situation he trains for.

"Now I have a chance at the world number one and the title again all at once so it's a big match for me and I hope I can keep my nerves. I'm sure I can."
