Spain takes commanding Davis Cup lead

By: Gary Denvir | Latest Tennis News | Saturday April 7 2012 8:32

Spain has taken a commanding 2-nil lead over Austria in their Davis Cup tennis quarterfinal in Oropesa del Mar.

Nicolas Almagro needed less than two hours to beat Jurgen Melzer 6-2 6-2 6-4, before David Ferrer smashed Andreas Haider-Maurer 6-1 6-3 6-1.

It's a closer call in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin where France and USA are locked at one-all after the first day of singles.

In the other two quarters, Czech Republic currently leads Serbia 1-nil and Croatia is 1-nil up over Argentina.
