Mike Byrne steps down as Swimming NZ CEO

| Latest Swimming News | Friday May 25 2012 18:28

Mike Byrne has officially left his post as CEO of Swimming New Zealand.

A damming independent review into the organisation recommended that Byrne and the entire board resign.

In a statement via Swimming NZ, Byrne says he didn't agree with the draft findings of the review.

However former New Zealand swimmer Moss Burmester says he had no choice but to step down.

"I'm definitely agreeing with the reports that there does need to be structure and I feel now that the sport wasn't going in the right direction and it definitely needs some new blood to go in there."

Mr Byrne says he feels he needed to step down to allow the organisation to move forward productively.
