Thigh and knee pads are to become mandatory for NFL players, as the governing body of the sport tightens its safety rules.
While some players wear knee and thigh pads, wide receivers and running backs see them as restrictive to their movement.
However the NFL is to make them mandatory, like helmets, from the 2013 season something that's upset the Players' Association because they want it negotiated first.
