Tobin disappointed in kiteboarding 2016 decision

By: Elliott Smith | Other Sport News | Monday May 7 2012 12:12

New Zealand's windsurfer at this year's London Olympics believes it's far too soon to bring in kiteboarding to the games.

Windsurfing's been tossed out of the Olympics after London in favour of the newer kiteboarding for Rio 2016.

JP Tobin's dumbfounded.

"Four years they've got a lot to do in a little time so as a demonstration sport I can see it happening, but to replace windsurfing I don't think it's a good move."

Tobin says there's a Facebook page that has been set up to try and have the decision overhauled.

He says something needs to be done.

"If we look at our history in the sport I think it's something that yachting or sailing in New Zealand should definitely fight for, just to have our tradition continue because it's a successful one for our country anyway."
