Heartbreak for Villumsen

By: Elliott Smith | Other Sport News | Thursday August 2 2012 1:00

Kiwi cyclist Linda Villumsen has finished fourth in the women's Olympic time trial.

Villumsen has come oh-so-close to becoming the first New Zealander to win an Olympic medal in road cycling.

She was second at the first adn second splits and looked on track for a bronze at worst, but faded slightly over the last 10km.

She's had to settle for fourth place, posting a time of 39 minutes and 59.18 seconds, a second off the bronze medallist.

Villumsen finished behind American Kristin Armstrong, German Judith Arndt and Russian bronze medallist Olga Zabelinskya.
