Van Velthooven hopes his bronze inspires

By: Brenton Vannisselroy | Other Sport News | Wednesday August 8 2012 19:56

Simon van Velthooven hopes his Olympic bronze medal serves as a catalyst for more funding towards BikeNZ's sprint cyclists.

Van Velthooven claimed bronze in the men's keirin on the final day of the Olympic track cycling programme.

He says hopefully High Performance Sport New Zealand now sees the sprint cyclists as a team that can medals.

"I'm looking forward to the new high performance centre and a place where we can train and inspire other riders to race and go for Olympic glory because it's a hard road but it's a great road to take, and when you've got a medal round your neck everything seems easy."
