McLeod stepping down after Olympics

By: Dale Budge | Other Sport News | Wednesday August 8 2012 11:05

The New Zealand men's hockey team's failed Olympics campaign has spelled the end of coach Shane McLeod's reign.

The Black Sticks have drawn with Germany 5-5 in their final pool match in London after leading 5-2 early in the second half.

McLeod has confirmed to Radio Sport that he will be stepping down from the role after the London Games.

"I've been in the job for six years now. I think there's the opportunity for someone new to come in and take over the role and take it to the next level," he told Radio Sport's Lee Radovanovich.

New Zealand will now play off for ninth.
