Big names coast through 100m heats

By: Elliott Smith | Other Sport News | Sunday August 5 2012 0:52

The big names have all progressed relatively untested through to the semi-finals of the men's 100m at the Olympic Stadium.

Reigning Olympic champion Usain Bolt started slowly in his heat before strolling to victory in a time of 10.09 seconds, but it was the slowest winning time of the seven first round heats.

Bolt's Jamaican compatriot Yohan Blake posted ten seconds flat after beating Bolt in the national Olympic trials in June, with Asafa Powell also flying the flag of the Caribbean nation in winning his heat.

American Ryan Bailey was the fastest through, equalling his personal best in a time of 9.88 seconds, with his countrymen Justin Gatlin and Tyson Gay, as well as previously banned drugs cheat Dwain Chambers joining him in claiming their heats.
