Sergent called up to Grant Tour for first time

By: Guy Heveldt | Other Sport News | Tuesday May 1 2012 6:16

Kiwi cyclist Jesse Sergent has been called up to ride in a Grand Tour for the first time.

The 23-year-old has been picked in the Radio Shack-Nissan-Trek team for the Giro d'Italia, starting later this week.

He says while it's been in the pipeline for a while, his place was never guaranteed.

Sergent says until you get your flight and you are confirmed in the team, you are never sure.

"It's nice to know everything's black and white now."

Jesse Sergent says he definitely won't be riding the Tour de France however.

Sergent has already been confirmed in the New Zealand track team for the Olympics.
