Newcastle United eyeing Champions spot

By: Matt Brown | Latest Football News | Tuesday April 10 2012 6:45

Newcastle United's eyeing up a Champions League spot after drawing level with fourth placed Tottenham in the English Premier League.

The Geordies have beaten Bolton 2-nil.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew says they'll fight to the end of the season.

"I said all along if we could get there with the last six games and be in it, we'd just give it a go and that's what our fans want to see us do, give it a go, an honest commitment to winning a game and that's what we've done all year, it's got us where we are now, we're not going to get carried away by it."

But Tottenham Hotspur's grip on a Champions League place for next season is weakening after a 2-1 Premier League home defeat by Norwich.

The result leaves Spurs fourth on the table, level on points with Newcastle who have beaten Bolton 2-nil.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp says his side was never comfortable.

"They were always dangerous, they were strong, they got the ball up their front people, they made bad balls into good balls and full credit to them today, it was an excellent performance from them."

Everton has consolidated 7th place after a 4-nil win over Sunderland, while Aston Villa and Stoke have drawn one all.
