Ref continues assault recovery

| Latest Football News | Sunday April 29 2012 6:30

Football referee Len Gattsche is continuing to recover from the broken jaw he suffered in an assault on the pitch.

His jaw was broken in three places during a match between Manukau City and Tauranga City this week.

A 36-year-old Manukau City player has since been charged.

Tauranga City coach Mervyn Montgomery says it was a disappointing day for football.

"You don't expect that to happen on a football park and hopefully it doesn't happen again."

Mr Montgomery saw what happened from the sidelines.

"I've never seen anything like that before in all the games that I've been involved in throughout my career."
