Club / country scheduling conflict for NZ Football

| Latest Football News | Thursday June 28 2012 8:58

The club-versus country row in football looks like it may have a major impact on the All Whites and Wellington Phoenix.

A-League games in October and March fall close to the All Whites' World Cup qualifiers, and the Phoenix have written to Football Federation Australia asking for the games to be rescheduled.

But coach Ricki Herbert says the draw isn't as bad as it could have been, and how many Phoenix players will be required for international duty isn't yet decided.

"These players are going to put their hands up and make sure they're good enough to be in the starting 11 for the All Whites, they may not be. I think there are a lot of grey areas that may be crossed when we get there. I guess in an ideal world, if we can do the job and do it properly then maybe there's no conflict."

Herbert doubts the A-League administrators will play ball and help them out.
