Mixed emotions at the Chief's parade

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Rugby News | Monday August 6 2012 15:31

There was sadness mixed with joy today as Hamilton celebrated the Chiefs winning the Super Rugby title with a parade.

Thousands of Chiefs fans poured out onto the main street to show their support.

Fans stood in silence for one minute, in honour of the two soldiers killed in Afghanistan yesterday.

Councillor Peter Bos says while the soldiers led different lives to those of the Chiefs, they were still part of a team.

"I am full of emotion because it was a long time between drinks - 17 odd years waiting. But a tinge of a sadness also because I can't help thinking about them because they are a team, they are mates. And they have paid the ultimate and I feel a little sad for that today."

Captain Craig Clarke said the team were appreciative of all the support.
