Saturday afternoon games ruled out for ABs

By: Nick Walker | Latest Rugby News | Friday May 4 2012 15:57

While the debate for more afternoon Super Rugby games wages on, it's been ruled out as a regular possibility for All Black tests.

NZRU CEO Steve Tew says there's no way they could afford to schedule consistent test matches during the day.

"If we start playing All Black tests on Saturday afternoon with any sort of regularity, then simply the money we get from the broadcasters will come back in total, we'll have less money to deal with community rugby and we'll have less money to keep our players and our coaches here."

Tew says broadcasters reluctance to go away from their tried and trusted night time slots isn't their fault - it's simply what works best for them.
