Messam back to lead Chiefs

By: Radio Sport staff | Latest Rugby News | Thursday February 23 2012 11:28

Liam Messam has been given the nod to lead the Chiefs for their opening match of the Super Rugby season against the Highlanders on Saturday night.

Coach Dave Rennie has named a formidable looking backline, with Sonny Bill Williams and Richard Kahui pairing up outside Aaron Cruden.

Robbie Robinson will start against his old side from fullback, with Tim Nanai-Williams and Lelia Masaga on the wings.

Youngster Sam Cane has beaten Tanerau Latimer to the number seven jersey, while Hika Elliott starts at hooker ahead of Samoan captain Mahonri Schwalger.
