The Blues have snapped a seven match Super Rugby losing streak. They've beaten the Lions 25-3 at Eden Park to lift themselves off the bottom of the competition ladder with just their second victory of the season. Michael Hobbs, Alby Mathewson and captain Luke Braid have scored tries for the hosts, with Gareth Anscombe kicking four from his eight shots at goal. The four competition points see the Blues leapfrog the South Africans to be two points clear from the foot of the competition. Coach Pat Lam's says the support of a loyal crowd means a lot to the struggling side.
"There was no reason to come tonight and I was blown away by the amount of people that came and supported the team, went past the coaches box, put the thumbs up."
Meanwhile the Bulls have gone to the top-of-the-table with a last gasp 27-24 victory over the Waratahs in Sydney. Photo: Michael Hobbs scores a try (Photosport) |
