Walsh apologises for awarding try

By: Nick Walker | Latest Rugby News | Saturday April 14 2012 9:45

Referee Steve Walsh has wasted no time in apologising for awarding Sharks midfielder Tim Whitehead a try after a clear knock-on.

Whitehead lost the ball forward into Blues winger Hadleigh Parkes, before re-gathering and scoring under the posts.

"At the time, I actually went "wow", because I thought "Jesus he's done fantastically well to juggle, re-gather". The ball got crossed by the player, I didn't see it touch the player. We got it wrong. I got it wrong."

Walsh is playing down his confrontation with Blues lock Ali Williams after the final whistle.

He says while Williams was animated in venting his displeasure, it wasn't bad enough to warrant a formal complaint.

"There's nothing formal, because he didn't step over a line. He let his frustrations show, maybe on reflection tomorrow morning, he might think it wasn't such a good idea."
