Championship leader Will Davison has continued his rich V8 Supercars form this season at the ITM400 in Hamilton.
Davison has taken out race one after starting from sixth on the grid.
He says the hard luck that saw Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen drop out of contention on the opening lap, helped his cause.
"First lap was awesome for me. Starting sixth wasn't ideal but I knew we were better than that, knew we were quicker than that but I knew that getting through the traffic was going to be the tricky thing but to pop out by turn two in second from sixth was obviously fantastic."
Jamie Whincup has finished second, with Garth Tander in third.
Fabian Coulthard was the best of the Kiwis, finishing in ninth.
