Hamilton stripped of pole position at Spanish Grand Prix

By: Guy Heveldt | Latest Motorsport News | Sunday May 13 2012 6:41

Lewis Hamilton has been stripped of his pole position and relegated to the back of the grid for the Spanish Formula One Grand Prix.

The McLaren driver had set the fastest time in qualifying but stopped in the middle of the track due to low fuel so he could make it back to pit lane.

Hamilton was told to stop by team bosses because he had insufficient fuel in the car for him to get back to the pits and provide a sample as required by the rules.

It means Venezuela's Pastor Maldonado will start at the front of the grid.
