Ian Poulter has ridden his putter to the top of the leaderboard on day one of the Players golf Championship in Florida. The Englishman has carded a seven-under 65 in his opening round to sit in the clubhouse with a one shot lead. Poulter dropped in eight birdies and had nine consecutive one putts during his round. He says you've got to sink putts to do well at Sawgrass. "Sometimes whether it's the wrong side of the draw with the weather or whether it's just you're not quite on your game, but you can turn a 66 into a 76 very quickly." A number of leading players have only just started their rounds, while Tiger Woods has carded a disappointing two-over 74 to currently be tied for 117th. |
