Haas sent packing

American world number 12 Bill Haas has been sent packing from the opening round of the world matchplay golf championships in Arizona, defeated by Japanese sensation Ryo Ishikawa 1-up.

Dustin Johnson's closed out American compatriot Jim Furyk over 20 holes, while Bae Sang-Moon's beaten Ian Poulter 4 and 3.

Tiger Woods is one-down through 11 holes against Spaniard Gonzalo Fdez-Castano and world number one Luke Donald is one down through four against Ernie Els.
