Golf: Long putters may be banned

By: Radio Sport staff | Latest Golf News | Tuesday July 24 2012 13:34

Just a day after Ernie Els' success at the Open Championship, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club is looking at banning the use of long putters.

Els sunk a string of crucial putts with his longer flat stick on his way to winning the Claret Jug.

R and A chief executive Peter Dawson says discussions with the US Golf Association about their use are firmly back on.

He says they hope to make a call in a matter of months.

As well as Els, Adam Scott, PGA Champion Keegan Bradley and US title holder Webb Simpson are other exponents of the putter.
