A stunning day for the batsmen on the opening day of the Ford Trophy one-day cricket competition.
Four centuries and eight half centuries were blasted as Wellington, Auckland and Northern Districts picked up impressive victories.
Wellington opener Michael Papps has smashed an unbeaten 162 in a record 273-run partnership with Steve Murdoch, who made 136.
Papps says it was amazing to chase down Otago's 349 at the Basin Reserve.
He says he's felt in great form all season so it was nice to get a big score and the win.
Papps says they were a bit disappointed with how they bowled but it was great to be part of the partnership with Murdoch and get the win.
Auckland's beaten Canterbury by five wickets in Christchurch on the back of 121 to Craig Cachopa.
ND seamer Trent Boult's taken four for 38 to help the Knights to an 84-run win over Central Districts in Nelson.
Otago's Aaron Redmond was another centurion.
Round two is tomorrow.
