T20 World Cup gets underway overnight

By: Nick Walker | Latest Cricket News | Tuesday September 18 2012 17:18

Black Caps Rob Nicol and Tim Southee won't travel with the side for their Twenty20 World Cup opener in Sri Lanka on Friday.

The pair have been struck down with the illness, and will remain in Colombo while the team travels to Kandy for their tournament opener against Bangladesh.

They'll only make the trip if they recover in time.

Daniel Vettori, who missed yesterday's final warm up match against South Africa through illness, has recovered and will travel with the team.

The tournament gets underway overnight, with the hosts meeting Zimbabwe in the first match.
