Wellington Firebirds coach Jamie Siddons believes Jesse Ryder is ready for the rigours of international cricket again.
Ryder hasn't played for the Black Caps since December's test win over Australia, after pulling a calf muscle just after Christmas.
He returned for Firebirds' final match of the Ford Trophy, scoring 96 off 67 balls against Otago.
Siddons says Ryder could play against South Africa.
He says if they want him fitter and stronger then he probably needs another month, but if the Black Caps need him he'll stand up pretty well.
The one-day team to face South Africa, will be named after the T20 series, starting Wellington on Friday night.
