England take five wicket victory

By: Brenton Vannisselroy | Latest Cricket News | Tuesday May 22 2012 7:17

Alastair Cook and Ian Bell have guided England to a five wicket victory over the West Indies in the first cricket test at Lord's.

The pair have shared in a steadying 132 run fifth wicket partnership after England had faltered to be 57 for four, chasing 191 for victory.

Cook was dismissed for 79 with just two further runs needed for victory, with Bell striking the winning boundary to finish unbeaten on 63.

England captain Andrew Strauss says it was a tough test match.

Strauss says they had to dig deep and that makes it more satisfying when you get over the line.

The second test starts at Trent Bridge on Friday.
