Boston Celtics tip off

The Boston Celtics have tipped off in their first home NBA game since the marathon bombings last week.

The Celtics recognised the tragedy with a moment's silence and the national anthem before tipoff in game three of their first round finals series against the New York Knicks.

At quarter time, the franchise honoured on court a range of public officials including police officers, FBI agents and paramedics.

"They are all, and will always be, heroes among us."

The Celtics trail the New York Knicks 25-20 in the second quarter, trailing 2-nil in the series.

Meanwhile, a significant blow to the title dreams of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

All-Star guard Russell Westbrook has been ruled out indefinitely after suffering a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee.

Westbrook will have surgery in the coming days.
