Auckland's proposed begging ban harsh - Wgtn councillor

Related

Auckland Council's proposal to ban begging in the city has been labelled as draconian by its Wellington counterpart.

A proposed bylaw bans asking for money, food or other items, as well as soliciting donations in an intimidating way.

Wellington City Councillor Stephanie Cook says in contrast the approach being taken in the capital allows people to donate money to beggars through drop boxes and a smart phone app.

She says Auckland's proposal is harsh, with Wellington's approach a much more compassionate and pragmatic option.
