Wellington liquor outlets selling to minors

By: Shani Annand-Baron | Latest Wellington News | Friday March 23 2012 14:48

Nearly half of the Wellington Liquor Outlets stung in a controlled purchase operation failed by selling to minors.

Police, Regional Public Health and the District Licensing Agency joined forces and visited 12 outlets, with five failing to comply with the Sale of Liquor Act.

Sergeant John Lewis says two city bottle stores sold to a 17-year-old without asking for identification, while a third bottle store and two small grocery shops incorrectly checked another minor's drivers license.

Wellington city has around 140 off-license premises.
