Wellington firewalkers attempting world record

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Wellington News | Friday April 27 2012 9:14

Wellingtonians with nerves and feet of steel are gearing up for a Guinness World Record attempt this weekend.

Event management group Paardekooper and Associates are hoping to break the record for 'Most people firewalking consecutively at a single venue'.

Company director Luke Paardekooper says more than 350 people are needed to break the record, but he's hoping to see at least 1000 at tomorrow's charity event.

He says so far around 280 people have registered for the challenge, and those who would like give it a go can google 'Eastbourne Firewalk'.

Mr Paardekooper says walking on hot coals is made possible because coal is a poor conductor of heat.
