The death of bus driver Herman Curry has prompted debate on how safety can be improved for drivers. A funeral for Mr Curry was held in Wellington today. He died just over a week ago from a pre-existing medical condition, at the Waterloo Interchange in Lower Hutt. Two men were charged with the theft of his cash box and two teenagers were referred to Youth Aid. Bus & Coach Association chief executive Raewyn Bleakley says the incident has sparked conversations within the industry on how safety and security can be managed. She says a forum is being organised with the aim of identifying best practice and implementing measures to create a safe environment for bus drivers and customers. Photo: NZ Herald |
