Helicopter called in for car accident rescue

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Wellington News | Wednesday May 2 2012 16:26

A woman whose car went over a bank north of Wellington has been freed and is being loaded into a helicopter.

The incident happened shortly before 3pm on Haywards Hill Road on State Highway 58.

An ambulance spokesman says she suffered serious head and arm injuries.

He says the woman was trapped inside the vehicle but the fire service's mechanical jaws freed her.

The helicopter is on the road, so traffic is building up.
