Zealandia could be controlled by city council

| Latest Wellington News | Wednesday October 17 2012 9:53

Wellington's wildlife sanctuary Zealandia may be controlled by the city council in an attempt to control it's ballooning debt.

The Karori sanctuary has recorded a deficit of around $1.4 million for the year to June.

Earlier this year, the Wellington City Council agreed to give Zealandia $1.75 million over the next three years, based on a six month review of the sanctuary.

Wellington City Council's natural environment leader Helene Ritchie says while that review has yet to be completed, she thinks more monitoring will be necessary.

The sanctuary's report is due to complete by December.
