Plans for a $30 million project to quake-safe Wellington's town hall are nearing completion, with work due to begin in just under a year. Wellington City Council is hunting for a contractor to carry out the strengthening work on the building, which has been found to meet just 25 percent of earthquake standards. The council's earthquake resilience director Neville Brown says the hall's plans have been a long time in the making and hopes they will be finalised shortly. Mr Brown says the work will take at least two years. Photo: Getty Images |
