Severe weather warning issued for Wellington

MetService has issued a severe weather warning for Wellington.

Northwesterly gales gusting 130 km/h are set to buffet the capital.

MetService says the severe winds will also affect inland Canterbury, the Marlborough Sounds, Wairarapa and southern Hawke's Bay.

Meanwhile, heavy rain is forecast for the West Coast of the South Island.
