Wgtn local councils considering new structures

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Wellington News | Wednesday October 10 2012 7:20

New local government structures could be in place in Wellington as early as next year.

Local councils are considering government reform options, with a report due out later this month on the possibility of merging all, or some, of the eight local authorities.

Greater Wellington Regional Council chairwoman Fran Wilde says change in the region is inevitable and it's possible new structures could be in place for next year's local government elections.

"If all of the councils or most of them agree then there's a sporting chance."
