Wellington celebrates 'blown away' sign

Wellington Airport is celebrating the installation of its new 'Wellington Blown Away' sign today.

The sign was voted as the preferred option for the airport hillside, ahead of Wellywood for the airport hillside.

Airport spokesperson Kat Lintott says the sign is being installed throughout the day and the letters are looking good.

"They're quite beautiful, they're all white and they just look quite large and impressive."

She says the first few Wellington letters are being put in place around now.

"Each letter's going up one by one and then the 'GTON' will be going up in one lot as that's the more creative end of the word."

Ms Lintott says a timelapse video of the sign's installation will be available online tomorrow.
