Disposable nappies set to be recycled

By: Katie Bradford- Crozier | Latest Wellington News | Thursday October 25 2012 13:33

Millions of disposable nappies a year are set to be recycled.

Environment Minister Amy Adams has opened a world leading recycling facility in Upper Hutt, which breaks down the nappies into a safe, odourless compost, instead of sending them to a landfill.

It's estimated there are about 17,500 babies under two and a half in the Wellington region alone wearing the nappies and they produce more than 6600 tonnes of waste a year.
