Traffic signs displaying wrong messages

| Latest Wellington News | Friday April 20 2012 9:49

Traffic signs throughout the Wellington district are displaying the wrong messages this morning after falling victim to a software fault.

In what's being described a very unusual circumstance, at least three traffic boards are alerting motorists to roadworks in progress - when they're not.

An NZTA spokeswoman says of particular concern is the traffic sign in Tawa visible to southbound traffic, advising drivers to use an alternative route due to roadworks in Johnsonville.

She says that isn't the case and people should continue their travels as normal.

Likewise two signs are telling people to stop on request due to roadworks in Paekakakiriki - but that's not true either.

IT professionals are working on fixing the fault.
