Wellington to host its first cheerleading comp

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Wellington News | Friday August 3 2012 7:17

Don't expect pompoms at Wellington's first ever cheerleading competition this weekend.

The Ministry of Cheer Central Cheerleading Competition in Newtown will draw about 200 competitors from teams around the country.

Organiser Sofia McLean says the stereotypical cheerleading image shouldn't be expected.

"It's definitely not standing on the sidelines shaking any pom poms or anything like that, it's pretty high intensity, definitely something you won't have seen a lot of before."
