Body found on Kapiti Coast

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Wellington News | Monday May 21 2012 12:08

Police are urging people to check on elderly friends and family after the discovery of a body on the Kapiti Coast this morning.

The body's that of an elderly Caucasian woman, around 165 centimetres tall, of average build and with shoulder length grey hair. She is wearing a light coloured dress and black jacket, and a wedding ring.

She was found floating in the water off Raumati Beach by three members of the public just before 8am.

Senior sergeant Alisdair MacMillan says they're not treating the death as suspicious.

"We would certainly like to hear from anyone who has not seen a friend, associate or a loved one over the last 24, 48 hours.

"It does not appear the women has been in the water very long."

Alisdair MacMillan says while that suggests she's a local, they're also fully aware she could have travelled to Kapiti.

He's asking anyone who hasn't heard from a loved one who fits the description in the past 24 to 48 hours to check on them.
