Fire breaks out in Wellington high-rise

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Wellington News | Friday November 2 2012 14:50

Fire has broken out on the 22nd floor of a high rise in downtown Wellington.

Fire-fighters have converged on the Majestic Centre in Willis Street.

The whole building has been evacuated.

One witness says around 11 fire appliances are there.

"At first all we heard was their building being evacuated. There were quite a few people on the street and a number of fire engines that had come up onto Boulcott Street, it's still closed off at the moment.

"Couldn't see any flames, apart from the fire engine's wheel that did start smoking at one point, but we did see quite a few firemen go up into the building."
