Kapiti murder accused to appear in court

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Wellington News | Monday September 17 2012 9:02

A 22 year-old man will appear in the Porirua District Court today charged with the murder of Kapiti man Sean Strongman-Lintern.

The 20-year-old was stabbed in the heart early Saturday morning during a brawl outside the Kapiti Junction Bar, just metres from the Kapiti Police Station.

His body was found in the same shopping area where 17-year-old Izak Millanta was beaten unconscious only one month ago.

Millanta died in hospital the following day.

The Kapiti Coast community is reeling after the second violent homicide, and calls are pouring in for the local council to do more about the district's youth drinking culture.

A Facebook page set up in Strongman-Lintern's honour includes numerous messages denouncing violence among Kapiti youth.

Kapiti Mayor Jenny Rowan says the council will take a closer look at liquor laws in the area, but believes youth should also understand the meaning of personal responsibility.
